Sun power shines on the bowls club
TWEED Heads Bowls Club has turned to the sun to cut their power bills by more than half.
In a big nod to the environment, the club has not only cut down on costs, but has also significantly reduced their carbon footprint after having 384 solar panels installed along their rooftop.
"We have installed Trina Solar Duomax double glass panels that will generate 155mw a year and save 150 tonnes of carbon,” Tweed Heads Bowls Club general manager Gerard Robinson said.
"As well as the solar, we've been replacing old plants and lights, so our $80,000 monthly summer power bill will be cut by $20,000.
"The incentive is for us to drive to increase our savings even further by expanding the size of our solar scheme in the future.”
The Trina Solar Duomax solar panels, installed by Smart Commercial Solar, are a dual module panel which offers extra protection against salt mist, sand, acid and alkali and has a fire class A safety rating and reduces UV ageing.
The panels will reduce soiling and cleaning and maintenance costs, and were recommended by Smart Commercial Solar due to the club's proximity to the ocean.
The club, founded in 1921, has been at their current location on the corner of Wharf and Florence Streets, Tweed Heads, since 1975.
