Sun shines on Coast
THE sun was shining upon the Gold Coast Football Club last night, as the AFL’s 17th licence reaped the benefits of boasting the lion’s share of the historical 2010 national draft selections.
The Suns dominated proceedings at the glitzy Gold Coast Convention Centre event, enjoying eight of the first 13 picks, including the top three, in what was the first national draft held outside Melbourne since its inception in 1986.
So who will be joining Gary Abblett, Karmichael Hunt, Jarred Brennan, Josh Fraser, Nathan Bock, Nathan Krakouer, Michael Rischitelli, Campbell Brown, Jarrod Harbrow and the remaining members of the fledgling 2010 VFL squad in the red and gold when the Suns make their AFL debut in May
Well, the Coast have confirmed widespread speculation by taking midfielder David Swallow as the top pick.
Swallow turns 18 today and is coming off an impressive season for Gold Coast’s VFL team.
As expected, utility Harvey Bennell from Perth was the second pick and the Suns took SA ruckman Sam Day with the third selection.
