Sunday recharges Terry’s battery

EVERY week Rotarian and semi-retired builder Terry Welch looks forward to what he calls his "non-committal day".

Sunday for him is day when he is free to do what he wants, and when and how he wishes to do it.

"As a person who suffers with depression - different from being depressed about the weather or your golf game - this day can be used to help the recovery process," he said.

"Due to my depression not being as severe as some and more in line with dysthymia, having a complete day of rest without commitments really helps."

The Kuluin man said most Sundays he and his wife Gail made up theirs minds on the day on what to do.

"There are so many things one can do on the Sunshine Coast," he said.

"It is sometimes just great to stay at home and enjoy what we have.

"There is nothing better than working in the garden then coming in around lunch time to share a good bottle of wine with local cheese and biscuits.

"The trick is to be wary of the second bottle."

The Rotary Club of Maroochydore secretary said a visit from his children and/or grandchildren made the "perfect Sunday".

"From our old-time religion stories, Sunday was nominated as the day of rest," he said.

"Maybe we could change it to the day of non-committal, then again maybe not as any day you choose is your day to recharge the 'spirit batteries'.

"(In saying this) I still have respect for people who prefer Sunday as a religious day and or a day to help people in our community."
