Suns shine on home turf
THE opening of the Metricon Stadium on Saturday night went off with a bang, literally, as a refreshed Suns outfit welcomed Geelong to the Gold Coast.
It was a stunning first half by the Suns as they went toe-to-toe with the unbeaten Cats and threatened a major boilover.
However the physical nature of the match took its toll on the young Suns and the Cats, led by a seven-goal bag from the mercurial Steve Johnson, fought back to claim the four points.
The Suns have made giant strides this season and travelling teams will find it very difficult to win at Metricon Stadium as the season progresses.
Expect quite a few changes to the Suns line-up that heads west to take on the Eagles this week.
There were a lot of sore bodies after the Geelong match.
One player who definitely won’t be making the trip is Karmichael Hunt who copped a one-match suspension for his high bump on Geelong’s Nathan Vardy in the first quarter.
