SUPANOVA is in full force and Anime lovers from the Tweed are heading to the Gold Coast Convention Centre to show off their costumes.

"I mainly go to get dressed up," Cudgen's Renee Booker said.

Miss Booker said Supanova was her favourite time of the year because of the costume play "cosplay" events.

"To me it's better than Christmas," she said.

"I look forward to it so much."

The keen Japanese Anime fan said this was her fifth year attending and dressing up for the event and it wasn't the celebrities that kept her coming back.

"I don't care for the celebrities," she said.

"I like the seminars; they usually have interesting voice actors."

In the past she's heard the voices from TV show Red Vs Blue and Invader Zim all give seminars.

"They've had Harry Potter actors like Draco Malfoy there, and the Weasley twins, but I just enjoy getting dressed up."

This year Miss Booker and her friends are dressing up as characters from the anime series Angle Beats.

"I'm going at Yuri," she said.

"All eight of us will be in costumes from the same show.

"Some of the costumes there are incredible."

The event hosts many celebrities from different cult favourite TV series and movies,

This year Baywatch hunk, David Hasselhoff, I Dream of Jennie's main lady Barbara Eden and Charmed/Scream celebrity Rose McGowan will all be there.

The event kicked off last night and will run until Sunday.
