WE at the Daily Mercury think Mackay's Olympic marathon runner Benita Willis is a real champion and have been inspired by her incredible achievement in finishing the marathon in London despite a painful hip injury.
The gritty performer kept the injury secret until mum Merilyn told the Daily Mercury on Friday that her daughter was in danger of not even starting in her fourth and final Olympics.
Willis, running in agony, finished the event in just under two hours and 50 minutes.
