Surf comes to turf to float Lions

SURF and turf is a term we equate with a meal.

But Cabarita Surf Club and Cabarita Sports and Bowling Club gave it another twist when they competed in a golf event to raise money for the Cabarita/Pottsville Beach Lions Club.

They raised an impressive $774.

But the Lions club being the amazing fundraisers they are, turned swiftly towards an organisation in need, with treasurer Mary Collie handing the cheque over to the Tweedle-Sea Day Club at Cabarita.

Housed by the Cabarita Sports Club, the day club entertains elderly folk each Monday.

Co-ordinator for the day club, Liz Baker accepted the cheque.

"It's great to receive this financial boost," she said.

"We really need a new oven, so the timing is perfect."

RSL Day Clubs are a weekly social program for older people from both ex-service and the wider community.

They offer social support and friendship to older people in the community but who are unable to attend more active programs.
