Surf Life Saving champs still on

THE NSW Country Surf Life Saving Championships at South-West Rocks this weekend will go ahead as scheduled.

Organisers yesterday contacted local clubs and informed them that flood warnings in the region had been lowered and they were confident of hitting the water tomorrow morning.

“We have just been notified by the local area command that the flood warning for Kempsey has been dropped and the roads around the Clarence River will be opened within the next 24 to 36 hours,” Surf Life Saving NSW’s Denise Lees said.

“The carnival program will be run as already set.”

Tweed powerhouse Cudgen is expected to field a competitive contingent at the carnival and return with silverware.
