surf scene: Lessons from the best
IF YOU'RE a parent and are keen to see your offspring squeeze in an afternoon session, then this one's for you or, more importantly, your grom!
Palm Beach resident and Hawaiian women's pioneer professional surfer Nancy Emerson is offering after-school surfing mentoring for children and teens from eight years to 16. Nancy is a former world champion surfer with over 35 years teaching and coaching people at all levels.
Her worldwide experiences extend around the surfing globe, taking in her home Hawaii, Japan, California, Mexico, Fiji and Australia.
In 1998 in Hawaii, Emerson was inducted into the International Wahine Ocean of the Sea Hall of Fame, and she has helped some of the biggest names in Hawaiian surfing such as Sunny Garcia, teaching him how to surf at the age of five and coaching ASP Hawaiian world women's pro Melanie Bartels.
Since 2000, Emerson has owned and run her own surf school Australian School of Surfing, based on the southern Gold Coast.
"I will work personally with two to four in a group, whether it is short boards, longboards or body boards," Emerson said.
"The surfing after school area will extend from Tallebudgera to the Tweed.
"You can sign your children up for one day to five days a week and your children will be picked up from their school, taken to the best and safest spot on the southern Gold Coast."
After the surfing sessions, Emerson will drive them directly back to their home.
Her format provides a service to tune up student's skills, transform their progress to new heights of confidence and precision.
Emerson's passion helps the children to improve their focus, determination, teach them better understanding of reading the ocean and how to prepare their goals to what they would like to accomplish.
