Two Cooly surfers up for wild card entry to Quiksilver Pro

THE Queensland Championship Circuit title where the two contenders will receive a wildcard entry into the Quiksilver Pro trials 2014 at Snapper Rocks has narrowed down to two Coolangatta surfers.

Nic Vasicek of the Dbah Boardriders won the third event of the Chiko QQC on the Sunshine Coast with Mitch Parkinson (Snapper Surfriders) and the winner of the first event, the MP Classic, placing 4th in the final.

Previously Mitch Crews had won the Alley Classic at Currumbin with Vasicek placing third while Parkinson was a shock elimination early.

Reaching the Coolum final has boosted Mitch Parkinson's chances of either winning the QCC title or placing second.

The younger cousin of world champion Joel Parkinson has made it known he would relish the chance to meet Parko senior in the main event at Snapper Rocks next year.

Vasa is leading the ratings from Mitch with one event to decide the title to be held at Burleigh Point on June 15-16.

In shifting 2-2.5m waves at Coolum Beach, 25-year-old Vasicek tackled a rampaging Nathan "Hog" Hedge (Buderim, Qld) who'd had his sights set on defending his Chiko Sunshine Coast Pro title. In a closely fought final, it was Vasicek, Hedge, Hayden Cervi (Noosa, Qld) and Snapper Rocks' Mitch Parkinson respectively.

With one of the best backhand styles in the local area, Vasicek used that smooth vertical attack that was honed to perfection on the southern end Pointbreaks to outpoint his opponents.

"I've grown up surfing point breaks like Snapper my whole life, so I think I favour my backhand. The other guys were going left down the beach, so I thought I'd paddle up further on my own and surf the rights," said an elated Vasicek.

Vasicek and Parkinson find themselves facing off for the overall series title as Snappers Mitch Crews announced that he will miss the final event at Burleigh Heads in order to pursue the ASP WQS events.
