Pros made it look easy at Australian Longboard Surfing Open
SURFER competing in the Australian Longboard Surfing Open had a tough final day with unfavourable conditions on the water.
The top professionals were making it look easy making solid scores in the two-foot swell combined with an onshore breeze from the north east.
Former longboard world champion Harley Ingleby defeated the reigning world champion Taylor Jensen in the final 14.23 - 13.37.
Ingleby scored early and left Jensen to chase but the world champion fell short.
It was much closer in the women's open with Western Australian Georgia Young defeating Crystal Dzigas late, 12.83 - 11.90.
Travis Grant from Palm Beach took out the Battle of the Paddle.
A world-record attempt for most surfers on a wave scheduled for Saturday was scrapped with the number of surfers showing up
World-record attempt organiser John Newman said they were 'very short on numbers' for the record attempt.
"We were basically relying on people just showing up but the conditions weren't right," Mr Newman said.
"The wind has been north east all day, but the pro guys make it look good."
Mr Newman said the best surfers were scoring well considering conditions.
