Surfer Samba proves he's the man

TWEED Heads' Samba Mann was unstoppable in the final round of the Queensland Championship Circuit (QCC) on the weekend, carving his way to an emphatic victory at the Coolum and Alex Surf Sunny Coast Pro.

With a combined heat total of 16.34 (out of a possible 20) Mann proved too strong for Jay Quinn (Bilinga), Chris Bennetts (Main Beach) and Nick Vasicek (Coolangatta) who finished second to fourth respectively in the final.

“I'm stoked with the event win,” he said.

“Everyone was just cheering for each other and it was a great vibe out in the water.

“It was a great series and great event.

“I can't believe it was only 10 ratings points difference that separated the overall series champion in the end.”

Unfortunately for Mann, he was the one 10-points adrift from series winner Vasicek.

Despite finishing fourth in the final, the Coolangatta kid had done enough to clinch his maiden crown, and book a spot in the 2010 ASP Quiksilver Pro trials on the Gold Coast.

“It was a really exciting event to be part of, especially with both the younger boys and all the past champions going toe-to-toe right to the very end,” Vasicek said.

“Winning the series is definitely something I didn't expect, so I'm lost for words.

“To get a shot at the Quiksilver Trials next year just tops off a crazy series and it's a dream come true.”
