SOUTHERN Gold Coast paddle champion Jamie Mitchell is considered surfing royalty, but recently he has been rubbing shoulders with the real deal in Monaco.

Princess Charlene of Monaco, Wife of Prince Albert the second, has made Mr Mitchell an Ambassador for her water safety foundation and charity.

Charlene, a former Olympic South African swimmer saw the need for something to be done after two many people drowned in Monaco waters over the past decade.

Justin Skinner, Mitchell's manager here on the coast, updated My Daily News on his movements.

"Jamie has been teaching water safety in Monaco recently and loving every minute of it," said Mr Skinner.

Mitchell, who some call the Kelly Slater of Paddleboarding has long been travelling the world competing and surfing, has a particular love of Europe.

"I love it, I am really looking forward to racing the best paddlers over there, as well as meeting lots of new people who are so stoked about Stand Up Paddlinboarding,"said Mr Mitchell.

Another reason for Mr Mitchell's trip to Europe was to compete in The Lost Mills, set on Lake Brombachsee in Germany.

The racing festival will see the European debut of Mr Mitchell's own creation, The Jamie Mitchell Survivor Race.

A combination of endurance, race tactics and timing is the key to winning the race, which will be contested on 12ft inflatable boards.

Jamie has his work cut out for him with stiff professional competition in defending Lost Mills champion Chase Kosterlitz, Travis Grant, Casper Steinfath, Georges Cronsteadt, Paul Jackson, Beau O'Brian, Jake Jensen, Eric Terrien, Rami Zur and all of Europe's finest paddlers.

The racing kicks off on the 27th may and raps up on the 2nd June, with over $20,000 on the line in cash prizes.
