Survey seeks councillor commitment
A COLLECTION of different community groups has come together to voice their concerns about the future of the Tweed and is asking residents to join them.
Community Voice has created a survey about what the top five issues ratepayers have for the Tweed and will collate the results to present to candidates running in the September 10 local government election.
Marion Riordan, a community voice spokeswoman, says the survey aims to help voters make an informed decision on election day.
"It's to align what the community is concerned about and what their priorities are with the candidates who've got those same objectives and values,” Ms Riordan said.
Once a trend has been finalised, Ms Riordan said the candidates would be asked to complete their own survey to see whether they matched the concerns of the community.
"We're tyring to get deeper than just the spruiking of the candidates for themselves that's all things to all people, we're trying to get beneath that,” she said.
As results start to roll in, Ms Riordan said a trend was already starting to emerge, with residents having concerns about over-development and environmental protection.
