Suspicious fire destroys beaut boat in Tweed yard

AN expensive boat will never sail the high seas again after it was burnt to a crisp at the weekend.

Tweed-Byron crime manager Brendon Cullen said police are investigating after a fire destroyed the 6.1m vessel, which was parked in a rear industrial yard on Ourimbah Rd, Tweed Heads West.

"It was worth a lot of money," Detective Inspector Cullen said.

"It wasn't just a tinny.

"It was quite an expensive boat."

On Sunday, just before 7pm, neighbours called the fire brigade after hearing loud explosions and seeing the boat alight.

After emergency crews arrived a guard was placed at the scene until the arrival of crime scene investigators from Lismore.

"We are seeking any person who may have seen anything around that time," Insp Cullen said.

"Would like them to contact us."

If you have any information about this crime contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
