Swans without injured Shane Mumford for the next month

THE Sydney Swans have been dealt a big blow with the news that ruckman Shane Mumford is expected to miss a month of football with a fractured cheekbone.

Mumford sustained the injury after a clash with Adelaide's Jared Petrenko in the Swans' impressive 77-point victory at AAMI Stadium on Saturday.

He is set to be sidelined for three to four weeks, with coach John Longmire saying the injury came at the wrong time with the big man re-discovering some form.

"It's disappointing for him," he said.

"He's probably just got going again and now he misses another slab of footy," Longmire said.

Mumford's absence could create an opening for Kurt Tippett.

Tippett has served his 11-match suspension handed down pre-season for having an contract arrangement with his previous club Adelaide that was not disclosed to the AFL and sat outside the rules.

He will not play this week as Sydney has the bye but Longmire said he was a big chance to debut for the Swans the week after.
