Taipans look to strike with win over the Kings

CAIRNS will shoot for its second win against a top-four side in the space of four days when it takes on the Kings in Sydney tonight to kick off round 12 of the NBL.

The Taipans will have to do it without influential big man Cameron Tragardh, however, after he rolled an ankle in the upset 99-90 win over ladder leader Perth at home on New Year's Eve.

Sydney will be out to bounce back from its disappointing 99-83 loss at home to bottom side, the NZ Breakers, on Sunday.

The Kings have yet to work out how best to use US import Sam Young, who did not play in the 99-86 win over the Taipans when the teams last met in round five.

In tonight's other game, Townsville will be out to snap a three-game losing streak when it hosts third-placed Melbourne.

Round 12 games: Fri: Kings v Taipans, Crocs v Tigers; Sat: Hawks v Wildcats, 36ers v Breakers; Sun: Tigers v Taipans.
