Take a longer holiday to avoid heavy traffic
TRAFFIC troubles are par for the course at the end of the Easter long weekend, but tourists are taking it in their stride.
Many holidaymakers will be heading home today and most expect it will be quite an arduous journey.
However, they are still optimistic and hope they can dodge the traffic one way or another.
Bob Raynham from Mackay said the trip down to the Tweed was a bit testing, but was hoping that if he stayed a few extra days he would miss most of the traffic.
"It was pretty horrendous there for a little while on the M1 highway," he said.
"But we're not heading off until the end of the week, avoiding the worst of it.
"There are a lot of impatient people."
Mr Raynham said that he thought there would be more than a few motorists receiving speeding tickets in the mail after the long weekend.
Leslie Long from Brisbane said he left for Tweed early on Friday morning to miss the traffic jams and was also planning to leave later in the week.
"We were lucky," he said.
"We came down on Friday morning and there was no traffic at all.
"We came from Brisbane and had no trouble at all," he said.
"Should be a good run back up too, we're hoping.
"Staying a few more days should help with that."
Motorists are reminded that police will be out in force and speed cameras are in use on both Queensland and NSW roads.
