Make a stand against violence tonight at Tweed Heads

AUSTRALIA'S longest banner will be proudly paraded through Tweed Heads for the Families Against Violence activism event tonight.

Tweed Police, Tweed Valley Woman's Service and Tweed Shire Integrated Response to Domestic and Family Violence Committee united to organise the event.

One of the event's main aims is to increase awareness about domestic violence in the community.

Organisers are hoping the family-fun style night out will cement the importance of speaking out against violence in the community.

Starting at 5.30pm at Jack Evans Boat Harbour, Tweed Heads, activities include a country dance group, a free pizza and barbecue dinner and the display of Australia's longest banner in the Sista's Against Violence Lantern Parade, to be held along Wharf St following the event.

Guest speakers, musical entertainment and a youth forum will also feature.

The theme of the painted banner is Take a Stand against Violence towards Women and Children, with pieces submitted by different schools, community groups, artists and families.
