Taking on danger

TWEED Heads firefighters dangled over Point Danger yesterday as part of a training exercise to upgrade their rescue capabilities.

Learning new vertical rescue techniques with ladders and ropes allowed the team to upgrade its rescue accreditation from category two to one.

Senior firefighter Mark Donovan said the team was at ease scaling the cliff and pulling stretchers up from the rocks below.

"Any upgrade is always exciting. We always like to have the extra skills on board," Mr Donovan said.

"We created quite a spectacle, we had quite a few people taking photos."
