Talented Terranora swimmers shine at Sydney championships

TERRANORA Public School had six talented swimmers swim off at the NSW PSSA Swimming Championships held at Homebush, Sydney last week.

Proud teacher Clayton Wetherall said the junior girls relay team of Yasmin Madigan, Amy Lipponen, Zoe Taylor-West and Elsie Fowler, and individuals Ryan Garner and Caitlin Fowler made the cut.

The keen swimmers went to Homebush following the North Coast PSSA Swimming Championships in Coffs Harbour last month.

"The highlight of the schools' swimming calendar was for our swimmers to achieve a North Coast place to gain selection for the NSW Championships," Mr Wetherall said.

"The swimmers progressed along the way achieving the top three places in their events competing at school, District, Far North Coast and North Coast Championships."

At the NSWPSSA Championships, the junior girls relay team ( North Coast Champions ), reached the final of their event after qualifying with the 7th fastest time.

"This was a marvellous achievement considering the high standard of competition," he said.

"The Terranora school community are very proud of their efforts, especially at such a high level of competition."

Yasmin was the school's star swimmer at the meet, she was part of the Junior Girls relay and also competed in the 10 years girls 50m freestyle, junior girls 50m breaststroke, junior girls 50m butterfly and junior girls 200m individual medley.

"Yasmin was again successful in reaching the final in both the 50m Butterfly and 200m Medley. To reach the final at the NSW Championships is an exceptional achievement," Mr Wetherall said.

Team member, Amy also competed in the junior girls 50m backstroke and swam well in her individual event.

The boys weren't going to let the girls shine with Ryan Garner competing well in the 12yrs boys 50m Freestyle and senior boys 50m backstroke.

"He was very proud of his efforts and this is the fifth consecutive year in which Ryan has competed at the NSWPSSA Swimming Championships," Mr Wetherall said.

There was a personal best by Caitlin Fowler in the 12yrs girls 50m freestyle that highlighted Caitlin's performance at the championships, it was a closely contested event and she was thrilled to be part of the action.
