Thousands flock to Tamworth for a little bit of country

TAMWORTH'S population had received a much-needed tourist hit by Friday night as thousands of country music fans flocked to the town's most famous event.

Running from January 17-26 the annual Tamworth Country Music Festival attracts more than 5,000 visitors.

Crowd favourites like Beccy Cole and Adam Brand are back but this year up and coming stars will also have their chance in the spotlight.

Ten finalists have been selected to compete in sing-off at the town hall on Sunday night.

The top four will get the chance to perform at a free concert alongside country music great Lee Kernaghan.

The stars will then frock up on Australia Day weekend when the Tamworth Regional Entertainment Centre hosts the 42nd Country Music Awards on Saturday, January 25.
