Tapping in to the power of Destination Tweed
A RESTRUCTURE of the Tweed's premier tourism body Destination Tweed (DT) will allow businesses across the region to tap into its promotional power without being paid up members.
DT's board has called a special meeting for October 16 to change its constitution to scrap the $150 membership fee. Instead basic membership will be free to all businesses related to the tourism industry including a listing on DT's website.
DT chair Anne Duke said it would advantage the existing 180 paid up members of the group as a greater number and diversity of businesses would increase the quality and variety of promotional packages the organisation could pull together to promote the region.
Ms Duke said more advanced promotions offered by the DT from time to time were likely to still attract a fee.
She said they had gradually reduced the cost of membership from $300 over the years but many businesses still struggled to afford it.
The restructure would also help the group meet its contractual obligations relating to the operational funding it receives from Tweed Shire Council, she said. The meeting will be staged at 11am at the World Heritage Rainforest Centre on Wednesday, October 16.
