Tatchell: Tweed must trade on

DESTINATION Tweed CEO Bill Tatchell has a strong message for Tweed Heads businesses ahead of this weekend's nostalgia festival Cooly Rocks On.

"Be open."

It might sound simple, but according to Mr Tatchell, it's not unusual for businesses to close their doors while the rock 'n' roll extravaganza is in town.

"There's thousands of different things traders can do to attract people into their business, but you can't do that if you're not open," Mr Tatchell said.

"Have a look at your stock and see what you can put on special."

With an abundance of retailers, restaurants and services along the border, businesses need to have an edge to get the crowds off the street and inside.

"You might be able to dress up the shop and mannequins," Mr Tatchell said.

"Maybe dress up your staff.

"Make it compelling, use humour or use pricing.

"There's so many creative ways you can attract people inside."

Nostalgia fans will flood Coolangatta and Tweed Heads this weekend as Cooly Rocks On kicks into gear.
