Team x-calibur takes it to the x-treme on water

WITH points at a premium, the hill at Round Mountain Raceway looked more like that of Bathurst across the weekend, as fans packed the shores for round four of the Australian Jetsprint Championships.

More than 800 spectators were treated to demonstrations by some of the country's most talented skippers, as 39 competitors negotiated what is considered the most demanding course on the circuit.

“Attendance wise, it was the best meet we've had in years, so I was glad to see the weather hold up for us,” Tweed Valley Jetsprint Club secretary Michelle Parratt said. “It was a fantastic weekend and everyone that I've spoken with has said that they thoroughly enjoyed themselves.”

However, for those racing the weekend was all about fast times and championship standings.

Team X-Calibur dominated proceedings in the Unlimited category, with Mick Carroll continuing his devastating form to take top spot ahead of team-mate Tony Guistozzi, with XXX's Phonsey Mullen rounding out the top three.

It was a family affair in 350 division, with Mark Garlic leading the way until son Jake borrowed his boat and taught the old dog new tricks, eclipsing his time and ensuring a one-two finish for team Grumpy, ahead of Our Toy's Brooke Lucas in third.

Cabarita regular Brooke Dixon's track knowledge proved critical in the 400 class, drawing upon her experience to blitz the field for team True Blue, ahead of BTS's Rohan Smith and Rodney Krause.

“It's great to see one of the girls get one over the boys,” Parratt said.

The next scheduled meet for the TVJC is the Queensland and Australian Championship finals on the weekend of September 19-20.
