Teen arrest over assault

POLICE have arrested a teenager after an assault on a 44-year-old man in Murwillumbah on Thursday night.

Initial reports suggest about 10.30pm the man became involved in an argument with a group of teens near a Murwillumbah sports club.

The argument escalated and the man was then assaulted.

The man managed to break away from the group and was later treated by ambulance officers and taken to hospital with serious injuries to his face and head.

Tweed police arrested a 17-year-old youth about noon on Friday.

He will appear in Murwillumbah Children’s Court on July 17.

Inspector Greg Carey said police were continuing their investigations and were likely to make further arrests.

“Police are working with the victim and the victim’s partner to identify all the perpetrators in this incident,” he said.

“The investigation is ongoing.”

He said police were appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact police via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
