Teen charged over pistol after tip

A 17-YEAR-old male has been arrested and charged after a pistol was found at a Tweed Heads West house.

Tweed Byron Local Area Command executed a search warrant at the Jacaranda Avenue residence about 5pm on Tuesday after a tip off from a member of the public.

Police allegedly seized a pistol at the scene.

The 17-year-old was arrested and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station where he was questioned and charged with unauthorised possession of a firearm.

He was refused bail to appear in Tweeds Heads Children’s Court yesterday, where he was ordered to appear back in court on Monday.

Tweed Byron LAC Crime Manager, Detective Inspector Shane Diehm, said the arrest was the result of good team work between police and the local community.

“It’s great that members of the public feel comfortable coming forward and sharing information with us,” Det Insp Diehm said.

“It’s even better when that information leads to an arrest and a dangerous weapon being taken off the streets.”

Police said investigations were ongoing.
