Teen girl impaled on fence

WEEKEND frivolity ended in a gruesome accident for one NSW teenager on the weekend when she tripped and became impaled on a school fence in Sydney's west.

The 16-year-old's shocked friends called for help after the girl's left leg was pierced by a paling, leaving her hanging a metre off the ground.

It took paramedics more than an hour to free the girl before she was rushed to the Westmead Children's Hospital.

As the girl underwent surgery on Sunday, police were looking for her three friends to find out why they were on school grounds on a weekend.
