Teen soccer hooligan burns two with flare
TWO football fans have been treated for burns after a 16-year-old boy allegedly ignited an illegal flare in the midst of the Brisbane Roar playing Sydney FC at Suncorp Stadium
A 60-year-old woman and 31-year-old man needed medical attention after the explosive seared their legs and fingers.
The boy is now being dealt with by police, who confirm they have spoken to the teen.
Police are using the incident to warn Queenslanders not to unleash flares or illegal fireworks on New Year's Eve.
"This is a timely reminder to people, especially on New Years Eve, to ensure people understand the risks of letting off illegal fireworks or flares. Serious injury can be caused, and criminal charges laid," Inspector Peter Aitken said.
"The last thing we want is for innocent people who are out enjoying themselves to be maimed, or worse."
Beyond falling afoul of police, igniting flares at sporting events can be punished with a local, national or international ban on attending games.
