Man follows teen into girls' toilet

A TEENAGE girl has been forced to hide in a locked toilet cubicle after a man followed her into the female toilets at the Plainland Plaza.

Laidley police acting officer-in-charge Tony Harm said the man followed the 17-year-old girl into the public toilets at 11am on Wednesday.

Acting Senior Sergeant Harm said the girl became concerned after the man stood outside her cubicle for about 10 minutes.

He did not speak to her.

The teenager stayed inside her cubicle and called 000 on her mobile phone, but the man left before police arrived.

Police had now studied closed circuit television footage and determined the unidentified man had been standing outside Woolworths before following the girl into the toilet block.

Act. Snr Sgt Harm said the man was described as being Caucasian, aged between 45 and 50, 185cm tall, with short dark brown hair.

He was wearing a dark-coloured polo shirt with a horizontal white stripe and a green cap.

There is no description of the trousers he was wearing.

Act. Snr Sgt Harm said the girl had made a formal complaint of stalking.

Anyone who can offer information that may assist the police with their investigation is urged to call Laidley police on 54668000.

Members of the public who may have seen the man hanging around the shopping centre can also call Crime Stoppers on 1800333000 and remain anonymous.
