Temps plunge into the minuses as winter chill returns

IT IS a cold old August day in Toowoomba with the apparent temperature tumbling to minus 5.7 degrees at 6.30am.
The actual temperature was a chilly 0 degrees at that time according to the Bureau of Meteorology.
Across south-west Queensland it fell to -0.9 degrees at St George at 5.30am, -3.8 at Roma at 6am, -4.1 in Dalby at 6.30am and -5.4 in Oakey at 6am.
The apparent temperature in Oakey at 6am was a freezing -9.4 degrees.
It was literally freezing in Meringandan this morning with the mercury dropping to minus 5 degrees. Karen Thomas
