The case of the missing traffic light has been solved

THE case of the mysterious missing traffic light has been solved.

NSW Roads and Maritime Services said a heavy vehicle hit the traffic lights at the Minjungbal Dr and Kirkwood Rd intersection, Tweed Heads South, on March 18

Once our story went online, NSW RMS replaced the traffic light at relative light speed on March 31 at a cost of $2500.

An RMS spokeswoman said that repairs such as this usually take a week.

"In this case, a temporary right turn light was put at the site to increase safety until the new traffic lights were installed," she said.

"No complaints were received by RMS on this matter. Incidents such as these can be reported to RMS on 132 213."

Drivers can now rest easy knowing that they no longer face the peril of the traffic hazard and will now know precisely when to turn right, instead of making a haphazard shot in the dark.

Tweed Highway Patrol Acting Sergeant Justin Lavinsaid previously that he did not know if motorists would be fined if they ran the red light they couldn't actually see.
