The Jet Sprint Racing Championships races into Tweed

JET sprint racing is the closest you can get to achieving the same adrenaline rush of riding in a jet fighter plane.

Now the Tweed is getting its own taste of the fast-paced boat race with the Australian leg of the 2017 Jet Spring Racing Championships.

With a V8-engine powered boat that can get up to six g-force while racing around 28 corners in 48 seconds, Jeremy Kincaid said there was nothing quite like the feeling of racing at the Round Mountain track.

"This is a drivers' track and we like to put on a show,” he said.

Mr Kincaid said the trick for going from 0-100kmh in under two seconds in a jet sprint boat came down to the driver and their navigator's mindset.

"If you get your first lap right and you get that direction right on your first lap, it sets you in a really good head space for the rest of the day,” he said.

"But if you get it wrong, then you're just fighting this demon.

"So go slow, get it right, then you do your five (qualification rounds) and your two fastest (rounds) determine whether you go into the top 12 and then you've got the eliminations from there.

"If by that time of the day you're not automated in what turns you take and you're not automated about it then you're in trouble.

"You're going to force yourself to go fast because you know everyone else is going fast and then the boat gets ahead of you and you miss your turn and you've done something bad.

"If I'm calm and we cut the lap, it's a fast lap.

"The secret truly is if you know the track direction, the speed will come.”

The August heats are in preparation for the finals at the last weekend of October, which will also be held at the Round Mountain track.

Mr Kincaid said if both events went well, the Tweed Valley Jet Sprint Club hoped to host the World Championships next year, where teams from the US, New Zealand, Canada and Australia compete to be the fastest.
