The King of Pop comes to life again
THE sounds of the undisputed King of pop will come alive on Friday night when one of the world’s biggest tribute shows, Michael Jackson History, brings its national tour to the region.
The musical biography will chronicle Jackson’s vast and enduring catalogue of hits, including his early work with the Jackson 5, his groundbreaking solo work of the 1980s and his evolution into the 21st century.
History will explode at Jupiters Casino when South African performer and celebrated Michael Jackson impersonator Dantanio takes centre stage to revive the Jackson juggernaut.
History director Johnny Van Grinsven spent a year travelling the world in search of a performer to fill the role, before casting Dantanio, a performer and solo recording artist who’s been impersonating Jackson since the age of nine.
Dantanio said he would place his own unique stamp on filling the shoes of pop’s most celebrated artist.
“I do my best to be as Michael Jackson as I can. I sing, I walk, I talk like him,” Dantanio said.
“So all the subtleties I bring out in the performance, but certain solo moments allow me to incorporate a little bit of myself.”
History is just one of many Jackson tributes, but Dantanio said the nature of the production separated it from others.
“The distinction comes in our production and stage presentation, which includes a full band and dancers, choreography, 2300 stage light cues and over 38 costume changes,” he said.
“History truly gives fans the Michael Jackson experience and we want fans entertained and mesmerised and we give fans a meet and greet after each show.
“This is my first Australia visit, I’m very excited about seeing fans’ reaction and reception to the show.”
History has been performed more than 5000 times in the past seven years across Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong, Dubai, Indonesia, South Africa, Canada and the US.
