Queen's birthday present: Double demerit points
INCREASED patrols will run all weekend as part of Traffic and Highway Patrol's Operation Stay Alert.
Tweed-Byron duty officer Inspector Jim Kain said the operation started from midnight tonight and would end midnight Monday.

Police have pleaded with motorists to take extreme care this Queen's Birthday long weekend following the deaths of seven people in various crashes on the state's roads since Sunday.
Extra police will be on duty during the annual operation.
During last year's operation, two people were killed on NSW roads
Officers will be conducting high visibility patrols, mobile and stationary random breath tests and random drug tests.
Double demerit points will be in force and apply for all speeding, seat belt and motorcycle helmet offences during this period.
