TARA racehorse trainer Ken Dowling was all smiles at the Railway Hotel Allora Cup at the weekend when The Robber took out first place in the Allora Engineering and Welding - Horse Walkers/ Allora and District Tyres BM 55 Hcp.

Mr Dowling has trained countless horses during his 50-year career and has enjoyed quite a few wins as well.

Starting out at the young age of 19, Mr Dowling's passion for racehorses runs in the family.

His father was a jockey in the 1940s.

Participating in the country race circuit Mr Dowling has raced horses at Taroom, Roma, Cunnamulla and Toowoomba and said he is no stranger to Warwick's Allman Park.

"I've taken out the odd cup here and there," he said, humbly.

"And I actually won the Killarney Cup here a few years ago with Green Spirit."

Achieving his fourth win out of 13 starts and first past the post in Race One at the Allora Cup was Mr Dowling's five-year-old bay gelding The Robber.

Daughter Sharon Pomerenke co-trained the winning horse and is also part-owner with her sister Jackie Crompton.

Mr Dowling said with the help of his daughter he plans to continue training horses for many years to come.

"I'll be back to Allman Park again too," he said.

"It's a great track, especially when you win."
