The Tweed inspires artist currently on exhibition

Artist, David Hickson is set to showcase his latest exhibition titled 'New York, Barcelona, Murwillumbah' at the Tweed River Regional Art Gallery.

The exhibition will showcases sculpture, photography and drawing and is a part of the Community Access Exhibition Program (CAEP) which showcases local artists that live and contribute to the Tweed region.

Tweed River Regional Art Gallery Director Susi Muddiman said proposals received through the CAEP played an integral role in the gallery's program, often launching the exhibiting careers of artists.

"The space is dedicated to artists of the region" Ms Muddiman said.

"There's about 20 works, plus two grid patterns of eight works each included in the exhibition."

"I think the exhibition has a general appeal, but of particular interest to those visitors who are keen on travel, architecture, design, photography and sculpture."

"I know for me, the show has shaken some cobwebs off some memories of former travels I've been on, and it looks familiar, famous architecture in a new light."

"My favourites are the wooden assemblages, the design and colour choices work really well."

"It's a lovely show and one that I'll enjoy viewing for the next few weeks."

The exhibition is inspired by Hickson's recent travels to Singapore, Spain and the United States.

"I started this series of work by photographing towns in my region," Mr Hickson said.

"I began photographing the towns in my area, from Billinudgel to Crabbes Creek and Mullumbimby. I was inspired by the beauty in the buildings and trees of these areas."

"When I had the opportunity to travel overseas with my partner, I wanted to continue developing this interest in architecture and urban landscape."

"This exhibition includes a series of photographs that represent the places I have visited."
