Theme parks highlighted in Qld advertising blitz

THE Queensland Government will embark on a multi-million dollar advertising blitz in a bid to boost visitor numbers to theme parks in the state.

Premier Campbell Newman said on Tuesday the Theme Park Capital of Australia campaign would reinforce the state's position as the leading tourist destination by focusing on its world-class theme parks.

"Our theme parks rank among the very best in the world, and are 'must-do' experiences for any holiday on the Gold Coast," he said.

"That is the message we will be taking to all of Australia and New Zealand through this unique joint media and promotional campaign.

"The campaign will showcase in one complete package - that the Gold Coast is the Theme Park Capital of Australia."

Mr Newman said the $15 million campaign was jointly funded by the State Government and theme park operators and was a great example of how the private and public sector can collaborate to generate significant tourism benefits for Queensland.
