They're making beautiful music

THE newly-formed Gold Coast Symphony Orchestra will perform at the Gold Coast Arts Centre on Sunday, September 13.

After critically-acclaimed shows in 2007 and '08, the 60-strong ensemble will officially receive the city's imprimatur from Mayor Ron Clarke at the special concert at 7.30pm.

Orchestra chief executive Dr Josef Goldbaum said the September show by the coast's “newest cultural icon” will be a memorable event.

“We will provide a taste of things to come with an innovative program of musical gems, including the incorporation of visual imagery, dance and voice,” Dr Goldbaum said.

“Our aim is to become a strong and exciting force in the local music scene.”

The All Saints Anglican School Orchestra will also perform on the evening.

The symphony orchestra's plan is to ultimately offer subscription series.

“We are on the lookout for foundation patrons and supporters,” Dr Goldbaum said.
