POLICE are searching for a luxury car which was stolen from a business car park in Tweed Heads South.

Tweed Byron LAC Inspector Darren Steel said police attended the Rivendell address, directly after the theft about 10am on Tuesday.

"The man who was driving the BMW Z4 parked it at a business in Rivendell," Insp Steel said.

Insp Steel said the man left the keys in the car - and a moment later, an unknown man was seen near the vehicle, before driving away with it.

"The vehicle hasn't been located," Insp Steel said.

"If anybody happens to see a grey-coloured BMW Z4 convertible, please contact police."

It's understood the man had been borrowing the car from his 23-year-old step son.
