Thousands lose power in Qld storms

ENERGEX crews are working to restore power to around 22,000 south-east Queensland homes and businesses affected by severe thunderstorms.

The first of a series of severe storm cells crossed the region at around 3pm on Monday bringing approximately 10,000 lightning strikes and very heavy localised rainfall.

Crews have repaired damage to the network in the northern suburbs of Brisbane and parts of Caboolture and Ipswich. A total of 50 crews worked through the night to restore power to the remaining customers.

People still experiencing a loss of power should contact Energex on 13 62 62 to receive updates on expected restoration times.
