Three arrested for thefts

THREE people have been charged following two robberies at the weekend.

About 3.30am DST Sunday police were called to a liquor store in Leisure Dr at Banora Point following reports a robbery was in progress.

On arrival officers noticed a vehicle leaving the area.

Following a short pursuit the vehicle stopped due to a mechanical failure and was searched.

Police located and seized alcohol and tobacco products that had a combined estimated value of $1500.

Police believe the items seized were connected to an earlier break-in at another liquor store in Minjungbal Dr, Tweed Heads South.

A 22-year-old man, a 22-year-old woman and a 41-year-old man, all from Banora Point, were arrested at the scene and charged with two counts each of aggravated break, enter and steal.

The 22-year-old man was also charged with high-range drink-driving, using a weapon to avoid apprehension and driving in a dangerous manner. He was refused bail and will appear in Tweed Heads Local Court today.

The 41-year-old man was granted conditional bail and will appear in Tweed Heads Local Court on March 21.

The woman will appear on March 28.
