Blood spilled in Casino's streets
A NIGHT at the pub turned into a night in the operating theatre for three men involved in a vicious knife attack in Casino.
At 12.05am Friday police and paramedics were called to a violent altercation in Simpsons Pde, near the intersection of Cycad Ln.
On arriving they found two men suffering stab wounds, another man with serious head injuries and a discarded fishing knife.
A Casino man, 26, had a gaping wound to his abdomen, which stretched from his stomach to his chest.
Another 26-year-old Casino male had two open wounds to his right calf.
NSW Ambulance Northern Zone duty operations manager Inspector Greg Powell said the man experienced major blood loss.
"He had an arterial bleed on scene," he said.
A 45-year-old man sustained serious head injuries and was taken to Lismore Base Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
He was later airlifted by the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter to the Princess Alexandra Hospital where on Friday he remained in a critical but stable condition.
The two other men were taken to Lismore Base Hospital where they underwent emergency surgery.
Before the violence erupted, the trio were believed to have been drinking at pubs in Casino.
Police believe up to eight people may have been involved in the altercation.
Richmond Local Area Command crime manager Detective Inspector Greg Moore said the men were walking home when the fight broke out.
"We understand these persons are known to each other and were drinking at local hotels earlier in the evening," he said.
"These people have been known to associate with each other in the past.
"We believe one person has been responsible for inflicting the wounds and the injuries to the other person took place after the (stabbing) has occurred."
