Three must-watch series for everything entertainment

The Night Of

Sunday, July 17

8.30pm on Showcase

FANS of The Wire, this is your new binge-watch series.

The Night Of delves into the intricate story of a fictitious murder case in New York City.

The eight part series follows the police investigation and legal proceedings, all the while examining the criminal justice system and the purgatory of Rikers Island, where the accused awaits his trial.

Filmed in and around Manhattan, The Night Of is based on the BBC's Criminal Justice, created by Peter Moffat.

In episode one, a straight-laced Paskistani-American student is off to a must-attend party on a Friday night.

His only available transportation being his father's taxi cab, he sets off into Manhattan.

But his party-going plans are quickly forgotten when a mysterious young woman jumps aboard in need of a ride.

Charmed by her intense intrigue and good looks, the young man gets swept up by her pressures.

After a mind-altering night of drugs and passion, the woman is dead, and the young man finds himself in the cross hairs of a gruesome murder investigation, panicked and shaken, but possibly with a trace of doubt as to his own innocence.

Ballers S2

Tuesday, July 19

8.30pm on Showcase

He's back. Suits, biceps, dollar bills - the lot.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is Spencer Strasmore, a former football superstar turned financial manager to several current and former players in Miami.

He and his boys are back to "ball out" in a brand new season two where things are more competitive and more complicated. In episode one, we see Spencer face off with an old adversary, which puts his company and reputation in jeopardy.

A reformed Ricky gets bad news in advance of his 30th birthday party.

Charles relishes his new status as a fan favourite, but may face changes on the field.

Donna Hay's latest series Basics to Brilliance has just wrapped up for the season - but it's waiting for you on a platter to devour any time.

We saw the much-loved food editor and cookbook author whip up a host of culinary delights and teach viewers how to master the basics of good cooking.

Once the basics are down pat, Donna shows us how to turn them into something masterful.

"If I show you how to do a slow cooked brisket or the perfect roast lamb, I will then show you five different ways to spin that," she said in an interview with Foxtel.
