Thunderstorm warning (11.12.11)

A SEVERE thunderstorm warning has been issued for the Gold Coast by the Bureau of Meteorology.

The storm is likely to produce damaging winds, very heavy rainfall, flash flooding and large hailstones over the  warning area over the next several hours.

Locations which may be affected by the storm include  Gold Coast and Brisbane.

Emergency Management Queensland advises that people should move their car under cover or away from trees, secure loose outdoor items, avoid driving, walking or riding through flood waters and seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.

Residents should also avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm and beware of fallen trees and power lines.
