Ticket refunds go out for cancelled festival
ALL tickets to the cancelled Whitsunday Calling music festival will be refunded by today, Whitsunday Tickets director Kristen Goldup has confirmed.
The music festival was cancelled last week, less than 48 hours before the event was due to start.
Ms Goldup told the Daily Mercury yesterday they had processed three-quarters of the ticket refunds on Wednesday and would complete the remainder today.
However, it might take a few days for the money to reach bank accounts.
It is still unclear why the event was cancelled.
Organiser John "Scratch" Grey said yesterday he was speaking with solicitors and couldn't say any more.
Initial reports stated the event had been cancelled because organisers had been let down by the company supplying the PA system.
Ms Goldup couldn't confirm how many tickets they'd refunded but it is believed to be more than 250.
Mackay man and organiser of next month's Airlie Beach Music Festival, Gavin Butlin, said bad publicity surrounding the Whitsunday Calling festival had rubbed off on his event.
Mr Butlin said there had been a lot of confusion with ticket holders calling to cancel their accommodation bookings.
He stressed the Airlie Beach Music Festival was "totally separate" to the cancelled Whitsundays Calling gig.
Mr Butlin said they had more than 300 musicians - 74 bands - involved in the Airlie Beach Music Festival and all had confirmed their attendance for November 8, 9 and 10.
They have sold more than 1000 tickets already and have a limit of about 3500.
