Tiger may move into main terminal
GOLD Coast Airport management has revealed it is negotiating with airlines that use its main terminal to move the discount flyer, Tiger Airways, into that building as well.
Gold Coast Airport's chief operating officer Paul Donovan said the airport wanted to move all regular passenger services to the purpose-built Terminal 1.
“Last year we opened our $100 million purpose built low cost carrier, common user terminal,” Mr Donovan said.
“Currently all domestic and international airline services that operate out of Gold Coast Airport, with the exception of Tiger Airways, use this terminal.
“We are certainly looking to make Terminal 1 even more functional by facilitating all passenger services from this area.”
Mr Donovan said that meant the use of check-in counters, security screening and baggage screening processes, the core of a low cost carrier terminal operation, are maximised.
This will create greater efficiencies at the airport.
“Passengers using Terminal 1 also have a nicer experience, given the range of retail and food and beverage outlets, more seating and other facilities that enhance their travel journey,” he said.
“We believe this will reduce any confusion that exists as all passengers will arrive and depart from the same terminal, regardless of which airline they are travelling with,” Mr Donovan said.
Mr Donovan said any change to passenger services and terminal operations would be publicised and the airport would subsequently update signage and website information.
