Tiger cubs record first win

THE Tweed Coast Tigers under-13 girls side has secured their first win of the Northern Rivers Junior AFL season, after a convincing 65 point win over Brunswick at Barry Sheppard Oval on Sunday.

The Tigers, lead by Hollie Arthur who bagged three goals to be named among the best players, came out firing after a 60 point loss to the Murwillumbah Vulcans the previous week and dominated play throughout.

The win capped a big day for the Tigers as a club, with three of their four sides recording strong wins.

Tigers secretary Brett Arthur paid tribute to the girls’ efforts in what was a “highlight” for the club on Sunday.

“It was a great effort by the girls to come away with their first win of the season,” Arthur said.

“It was a highlight of the day watching all their hard work pay off.”

Arthur said the wins were a testament to the state of junior AFL in the region, which is thriving.

“If you spent the day at Round Mountain on Sunday, you would quickly discover that junior AFL is in full flight,” he said.

“Just under 300 junior AFL participants hit the field and the Tweed Tigers have 141 keen and eager boys and girls playing AFL.”
