Tight battle for bands
THE best young musi- cians from the Tweed and Gold Coast battled it out over the weekend in the heats of the Tweed Battle of the Bands.
The first heat on Friday night saw three bands pushed through to the finals, as judges simply couldn't choose the best two.
Potato, Potato,a group of three 14-year-olds from Byron Bay were an instant favourite of the judges, closely followed by equal second-placegetters Gold Coast heavy rock band D.A.W.N and Tweed heavy metal band When Words Collide.
An equal calibre of talent hit the stage on Saturday night for the second heat, with Byron Bay indie band Alice Blu awarded first place and Gold Coast pop punkers Double Lined Minority ranked a close second.
A Facebook poll determined the final two bands that will contest Saturday's final, with Tweed metal band Arcanine and Byron Bay rockers Ben Meek and the Paper Navigators taking out the people's choice awards.
Organiser Kristie Headley said she had been overwhelmed by the talent of the young artists.
"Both myself and the judges were very impressed," she said.
Entry to the finals at Tweed Civic Centre at 6pm on Saturday night is open to everyone for $10.
