Time for explosive celebrations
THE New Year will not go off with just one bang in Tweed Heads.
There will be 800.
About 1000kg of fireworks will be packed onto a barge in the middle of Jack Evans Boat Harbour this morning in preparation for tonight’s show.
The fireworks display is being put on by Twin Towns Services Club and Tweed Shire Council.
Spectrum Fireworks technician Nick Forbes arrived in the shire from Brisbane yesterday to oversee the arrival of the barge.
Mr Forbes has put two long weeks of work into tonight’s show, but it will all be over in 12 loud and colourful minutes.
“It’s always worth it though, I wouldn’t want to celebrate New Year’s any other way than by setting these off,” Mr Forbes said.
“I’ve done Jack Evans for about five years now. It’s always a challenge to come up with something new.”
The fireworks begin at midnight NSW time.
